Mussels are a delicious and budget-friendly seafood choice as they can be effortlessly cultivated and collected using ropes. They possess an elongated shape, generally ranging from 2 to 3 inches in length and displaying a stunning dark blue colour.
Their meat is orange and loaded with taste. Experienced mussel eaters use an empty shell as a temporary clamp to separate the flesh from its shell. Mussels are great for a starter or main dish and are commonly cooked with shallots, cream and white wine.
They don’t need a long cooking time, unlike other shellfish. You can steam them in the sauce for a few minutes until they open their shells, which will make them the most tender. In Cornwall, they cook mussels in local cider. You can also try making this delicious dish at home!
