Scallops are big shellfish that have pretty fanned shells, pink on the outside and creamy white on the inside. They have a slightly sweet, delicate and buttery taste.
The scallop’s body is divided into two parts: the scallop itself and the crescent-shaped, bright orange roe. Both parts are tasty and can be cooked together – frying them quickly with some butter makes for a real treat.
Unlike other shellfish, they can escape threats by ejecting water from their bodies in a pumping motion.
